Ontario’s weather is set to take a frigid turn this week and next week as arctic air returns.
The « coldest air of the season » will drop temperatures —and lake-effect snow is expected as well.
A new forecast from The Weather Network for the next two weeks revealed that arctic air is moving out of the Prairies and blowing into Ontario by Tuesday, January 7.
This will bring the « coldest air of the season » to the province.
According to the forecast, the cold air will « remain in place for some time. »
Temperatures are expected to be about 5 C to 10 C below normal.
Overnight temperatures are forecast to be -20 C to -30 C in central and northern Ontario and -15 C across the Greater Toronto Area.
The coldest shift in temperature will be on Wednesday, January 8.
Toronto is forecast to be -8 C with a windchill of -16 C on Wednesday while Ottawa will be -13 C with a windchill of -23 C and Windsor will be -6 C with a windchill of -12 C.
While this weekend will be closer to seasonal in Ontario, next week will be cold once again.
Also, next week will bring the coldest temperatures of the season around the Great Lakes.
The Weather Network said it won’t be « severely chilly » but temperatures will drop well below seasonal for a few days. Lake-effect snow is expected as well.
There isn’t any information yet on how much snow Ontario’s Great Lakes region could get.
