2 Canadian spots were just named among the best in the world for solo travel in 2025

Solo travel is having a moment, and for anyone looking for the best destinations in the world to explore on their own, Canada is officially on the map.

Tripadvisor just dropped its Travellers’ Choice Awards for best destinations, highlighting the best places in the world to travel to in 2025, and Canadian cities shone in the Solo Travel category.

This year’s rankings highlight destinations based on millions of reviews left by global travellers over the past year, shining a spotlight on the places that truly deliver unforgettable experiences.

Landing in 11th place was Toronto, thanks to its big-city vibes and friendly charm. Tripadvisor shouted out the city’s « world-class theatre, shopping and restaurants, » as well as its clean sidewalks and friendly people.

« We’ve heard Toronto described as ‘New York City run by the Swiss,’ and it’s true, » the travel site says.

Meanwhile, Vancouver also made the cut, coming in at #21 this year for solo travellers. The « cosmopolitan city nestled in the great outdoors » was touted as a dream for travellers who love mixing urban adventures with a generous dose of outdoor adventures.

Tripadvisor highlighted Vancouver’s « snow-capped mountains, waterfront forests and cityside beaches, » along with its Olympic history and thriving food scene. These are the experiences that travellers say make Vancouver a standout destination for going it alone.

To give you an idea of what company these Canadian cities were in, here’s how the top 10 rounded out for solo travel destinations:

  1. Seoul, South Korea
  2. Kathmandu, Nepal
  3. Cusco, Peru
  4. Bangkok, Thailand
  5. Osaka, Japan
  6. Dubai, U.A.E.
  7. Kyoto, Japan
  8. Chiang Mai, Thailand
  9. Reykjavik, Iceland
  10. Melbourne, Australia

The fact that these two cities stand shoulder-to-shoulder with global heavyweights like Seoul, Bangkok and Reykjavik is a testament to Canada’s international draw. Tripadvisor’s recognition celebrates what Canadians already know—Toronto and Vancouver are vibrant, diverse and undeniably world-class.
