We are well into winter now, but the second half of the season isn’t going to look the same as the first. The weather forecast for both B.C. and Alberta is calling for a big switch-up.
The Weather Network (TWN) released a mid-season « report card » and said that most of the country will see a shift (for the colder) at the end of January and heading into February.
Throughout the first half of the season, both Calgary and Vancouver welcomed above-seasonal temperatures, with it being « noticeably warmer » in spots like Calgary. Thanks to the run of warm weather Calgary also fell short of normal snowfall totals. That’s all about to change though.
TWN said that Western Canada is about to « turn chilly, » in a couple of weeks after some near-normal conditions come first. As we head into February though TWN said that « winter will make itself known. »
A « more consistently cold pattern » is expected to come in February, which is forecasted to bring below-seasonal temperatures across B.C. and Western Canada as a whole during the beginning of the month.
Although B.C. has seen unusually dry weather so far this year, it’s not expected to last. « Forecasters expect an active pattern to build back into the West Coast heading into the second month of the year—a pattern which could bring the potential for snow to places like Vancouver, » TWN said.
Hopefully, you got out and enjoyed the reprieve from colder weather while you could, because wintry conditions are headed your way.
