Montreal’s electro-pop duo Milk & Bone has returned with a new five-track mini-album, BABY DREAMER, released through Canadian label Nettwerk, known for supporting artists like Mallrat, Wafia, and Neil Frances. Produced by Micah Jasper, the project showcases Laurence Lafond-Beaulne and Camille Poliquin’s continued exploration of atmospheric pop with introspective lyrics and layered harmonies.
The EP follows the release of three singles: “FORGONE,” “baby Getz,” and “Two (2) Little Mountains.” The most recent of these, “FORGONE,” features on the soundtrack for the video game Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, a project for which Milk & Bone composed the full score. Their foray into music for visual media extends to the soundtrack for Atom Eve, released in December, reflecting the duo’s growing interest in immersive, narrative-driven soundscapes.
Completing the EP are two additional tracks: “Hands dirty” and “Nectar.” The former navigates themes of intense passion bordering on toxicity, while the latter examines the complexities of physical and emotional intimacy. Together, these tracks emphasize the duo’s focus on creating music that resonates with raw, human emotion.
In discussing the project, Lafond-Beaulne and Poliquin described BABY DREAMER as a deeply personal endeavour. “It’s our love letter to the first moments of lovemaking and the stories that form in our heads. It’s about falling back into awe with the vocal harmonies and lo-fi elements. It’s about finding ourselves exactly where we are right now and expressing that reality, those desires,” they explained. They described the process as a return to the core of their musical identity—stripped back, playful, and deeply intimate.
Looking ahead, Milk & Bone is set to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album Little Mourning with a special performance at the Société des arts technologiques (SAT) in Montreal on March 7, 2025. The event promises to be a retrospective of the duo’s journey, revisiting the album that first introduced their melancholic pop sound.
With over 75 million streams across platforms, a Juno Award win, and two Polaris Prize long list nominations, Milk & Bone has established themselves as a significant force in the Canadian music scene. Their music has been featured in television series like Riverdale and Tiny Pretty Things and has appeared in campaigns for brands such as Dior.
