Ontario’s weather forecast is calling for strong winds, snow squalls and blizzard conditions all over the province today that will continue through tomorrow.
Gusty winds and blowing snow are even expected in Toronto and the GTA.
The Weather Network released a forecast for Monday, January 27, that revealed a lower pressure system is pushing through Ontario and a cold front is bringing « an extra punch. »
« Pockets of heavy, blowing snow with reduced visibility will encompass a wide swath of northern Ontario, spreading toward northeastern Ontario through the afternoon hours, » according to the forecast.
Then, snow squalls are expected to blow in with « damaging » winds in southern Ontario on Monday evening.
There could be less than three cm in Toronto, three to five cm in the GTA, five to 10 cm in the Niagara region, and five to 15 cm along Lake Huron and Georgian Bay by the next morning.
Environment Canada has issued snow squall, blizzard and wind warnings across Ontario for Monday.
These are the places under the blizzard warning:
- Agawa – Lake Superior Park
- Bayfield Inlet – Dunchurch
- Port Carling – Port Severn
- Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay
- Parry Sound – Rosseau – Killbear Park
- Wawa – Pukaskwa Park
Between 10 cm and 40 cm of snow is expected in these areas as blizzard conditions continue into the afternoon.
« Travel is expected to be very difficult or impossible due to near-zero visibility, » Environment Canada said in the warning.
« Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve, » the alert continued.
But if you need to travel, you should keep others informed of your schedule and destination, carry an emergency kit, and keep a phone with you.
Snow squall warnings have been issued for these parts of Ontario:
- Bruce Peninsula – Sauble Beach – Tobermory
- Hanover – Dundalk – Southern Grey County
- Owen Sound – Blue Mountains – Northern Grey County
- Saugeen Shores – Kincardine – Southern Bruce County
This afternoon and into this evening, flurries are expected to become heavy and strong wind gusts will cause « significantly reduced visibility. »
Overnight and into Tuesday, January 28, lake-effect snow will develop off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
« Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions, » Environment Canada said.

- Owen Sound – Blue Mountains – Northern Grey County
- Picton – Sandbanks Park
- Saugeen Shores – Kincardine – Southern Bruce County
- Simcoe – Delhi – Norfolk
- St. Catharines – Grimsby – Northern Niagara Region
Southwesterly winds are intensifying through the day with gusts of 90 km/h to 100 km/h this afternoon and evening.
Tonight, there could be bursts of heavy snow and blowing snow.
Power outages, fallen tree branches and damage to buildings are possible.
« Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds, » Environment Canada warned.
The rest of southern Ontario, including Toronto and the GTA, is under a special weather statement because of « strong southwesterly winds. »
Environment Canada has warned that these winds could toss loose objects around, break tree branches and cause power outages.
Also, a cold front is expected to move through the region tonight, which could bring « bursts of heavy snow and blowing snow » that will reduce visibility and a « sharp » drop in temperatures.
