Vankleek Hill, situated about an hour away from Ottawa, is a cozy little town with endless old-world charm. According to the website, it’s known as the « Gingerbread Capital of Ontario, » but not for its cookie game.
The town earned this nickname because of the decorative gingerbread-style trim that can be seen adorning many of its Victorian-era homes.
You’ll feel as though you’ve been transported back in time as you explore the quaint streets and historic neighbourhoods.
There’s lots to do in this charming spot. You can indulge in sweet treats at bakeries like The Broken Kettle, or sip some drinks at Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company.
You’ll also want to check out the Vankleek historical murals and Vankleek Hill Museum to learn more about the town’s past.
If you’re looking to soak up some incredible views in the summer, The Higginson Tower, the highest structure the town, is the place to go.
During the spring, you can head to Vankleek Hill Tulip Fields which boasts over 300,000 blooms and allows you to pick your own.
The Farmers’ Market runs on Saturday mornings year-round and features all sorts of local vendors.
