Set just an hour outside of Vancouver this vibrant town sits alongside the water, surrounded by picturesque mountain peaks. While it has all the makings of an iconic West Coast destination, it often gets overlooked, and B.C. locals say it’s one of the most underrated spots in the province.
We went to the Narcity Canada Facebook page to ask locals what the most underrated spots in B.C. that people need to visit in 2025 are, and Squamish was put under the spotlight.
The town is a destination in its own right but is often just a pit stop on the way to the popular tourist town of Whistler. It’s is the halfway point between Vancouver and the ski resort, so people drive right through, taking in the views but bypassing the community.
A visit here means small-town vibes without compromising on amenities, great food, adventures, and above all — beauty.
The Coast Mountains enclose the small downtown area, which is lined with local businesses offering everything from tasty eats and good coffee to outdoor equipment and art. It’s all set alongside the bright blue of the Howe Sound, and overlooked by the majestic Stawamus Chief.
After touring around town you can step out and you’ll find yourself in the wilderness, with thick forests, mountain trails, and rock climbing adventures. Squamish is surrounded by eight provincial parks that are each home to stunning nature.
The Stawamus Chief hike is probably the most famous activity in the area, legendary for its steep climb and epic view.
There’s a lot else to explore though, from winding rivers and serene lakes to hidden waterfalls tucked back in the forest. Shannon Falls is a popular stop, as it’s easy to reach and also impressive. A bit more of a challenge is the journey to Crooked Falls, which is a spectacular cascade surrounded by towering trees and moss-covered boulders.
There are endless adventures here, and after spending the day soaking in the views you can kick back at one of the local bars or restaurants in the town.
The vibrant community right alongside the untouched natural beauty is what really sets this place apart, so don’t miss out on a trip.
