While many parts of the province have been soaking up the sunshine, that’s about to change. A parade of storm systems is rolling in, bringing heavy rain and alpine snow to southwestern B.C. this week.
The Weather Network (TWN), said in a forecast that there will be rainfall totals of up to 100 mm « across southwestern portions of the province » and up to 75 cm of snowfall in higher elevations.
And don’t expect the rain to clear up anytime soon. The forecast warns that above-normal precipitation is set to drench the South Coast for the next couple of weeks. While no single storm is expected to be a standout, the consistent downpours will add up to be notable totals.
Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland should brace for persistent rain through to Wednesday, while parts of the Interior could even see thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. The North Shore Mountains could bee 50 to 100 mm of rain, and Vancouver might get 50 to 75 mm.
But hey, it’s not all bad news. TWN points out that spring rain is actually a good thing as we head into wildfire season.
