Thom Yorke & Mark Pritchard Announce Debut Album ‘Tall Tales’

Thom Yorke and electronic producer Mark Pritchard have confirmed the release of their first collaborative album, Tall Tales, arriving May 9 via Warp Records. A new single, “Gangsters,” has also been shared, accompanied by a video directed by Australian visual artist Jonathan Zawada.

The track debuted on Lauren Laverne’s BBC Radio 6 Music show and marks the third preview from the project. Like its predecessors—“Back in the Game” and “This Conversation Is Missing Your Voice”—“Gangsters” underscores the album’s experimental leanings. Yorke’s processed vocals drift over Pritchard’s intricate synth textures, creating an atmosphere both immersive and unmoored.

The video continues Zawada’s unsettling visual world, developed in close collaboration with the musicians. Zawada’s aesthetic, which blends organic imagery with digital manipulation, has previously featured in projects for artists such as Flume and The Avalanches. For Tall Tales, his visuals are integral—not mere accompaniments, but an essential part of the project’s identity.

In a move that underscores the album’s multimedia ambitions, Tall Tales will premiere in cinemas globally on May 8, one day before its release. The screening includes the full-length film version of the album, directed and animated by Zawada. The project has been in development for several years, evolving in parallel with the music. According to Warp, it explores themes of environmental degradation, technological overload, and the shifting boundaries of human experience.

Yorke, currently active with The Smile, has a well-documented history of blending music and visual art, particularly in solo projects like Anima and Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes. Pritchard, whose early work with Global Communication and Reload helped shape UK electronic music in the ’90s, brings decades of genre-spanning production experience to the collaboration.

Tall Tales will be released digitally and in physical formats, including black vinyl and CD editions, with limited versions featuring a 36-page booklet of visuals and lyrics curated by Zawada. Select cinema attendees will also receive a printed zine offering additional context to the project.
