You don’t have to leave Ontario to discover one of Canada’s « most beautiful » villages. This enchanting small town is renowned for its charm and is worth a road trip.
Merrickville is a picturesque village perched along the shores of the Rideau Canal, about an hour from Ottawa.
Known as the « Jewel of the Rideau, » this destination is so charming it earned a place on Culture Trip’s list of the « 20 Most Beautiful Towns and Villages in Canada. » It was also dubbed « Canada’s Most Beautiful Village » in 1998 by Communities in Bloom, so you can expect gorgeous scenery while visiting this spot.
The historic town boasts Victorian-era streets and cozy shops that will transport you to another time. According to the Merrickville-Wolford website, « you won’t find any parking meters or traffic lights here, but you might find the Town Crier and very friendly villagers. »
