This BC hiking trail has a 100-foot suspension bridge, ancient trees and a hidden beach

B.C. has an almost overwhelming amount of hiking trails, each seemingly more breathtaking than the last. This hike on Vancouver Island is hard to beat though, with its massive suspension bridge taking you over a canyon, surrounding trees towering above you, and the hidden beach at the end.

This hike is actually a section of the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail and will take about 45 minutes one way. The entire Juan de Fuca trail is pretty gruelling, at 47 kilometres, so this hike is a good option for those wanting a bit of the beauty it offers without the commitment.

The trailhead is about an hour and a half hour from Victoria, and there’s a parking lot and signs at the entrance that make finding the trail pretty easy.

From the very beginning of the hike, you’ll be greeted by the moss-covered ground, tall ferns and beautiful trees. The somewhat short journey manages to fit in different landscapes and scenery, from ocean views at the beach to the lush greenery of the woods. It puts some of the best nature Vancouver Island has to offer on display, all wrapped into one hike.

Eventually, you’ll reach the Loss Creek Suspension Bridge.

The picturesque bridge is impressive, stretching 100 feet across the canyon.

The views don’t stop at the bridge though. Soon enough you’ll spot the ocean through the thick of the trees, and step onto the famous Mystic Beach.

Emerging from the forest you’ll see the sparkling ocean stretching out in front of you along with distant mountains and a rugged coastline.

Walking along the beach you’ll spot the sea caves along the shoreline, which you can explore during low tide.

At the end of the beach, a waterfall cascades off the cliffside into the ocean below. This is the scene that sets the beach apart and makes it feel truly magical.

After exploring the shoreline here you can turn around and hike the same trail back to the parking lot.

From the ocean views and captivating waterfall to the incredible vibrant forest — this hike doesn’t disappoint when it comes to natural beauty.
