Maude Audet Announces First English-Language EP Blue Tears

Montréal singer-songwriter Maude Audet is set to release her first English-language EP, Blue Tears, on February 14, 2025. The announcement comes alongside the release of its lead single, “Along the Road,” a return to the introspective folk sound that initially established Audet as a distinctive voice in Quebec’s music scene.

Co-written and co-produced with longtime collaborator Charles Blondeau, known here under his pseudonym Charlie Parcoeur, “Along the Road” reflects Audet’s seamless transition into writing original material in English. This shift follows her 2021 album Translations, where she revisited earlier works in English, hinting at this broader linguistic exploration.

Lyrically, “Along the Road” is steeped in vulnerability and quiet reflection. Lines like “If a dark black wave swept me away / Would you jump in the water?” showcase Audet’s ability to capture intimate emotional moments with restrained elegance. The track’s arrangement, a delicate blend of acoustic guitar and soft piano, mirrors the lyrical introspection, offering a soundscape that feels both sparse and full.

Audet’s pivot back to folk sensibilities marks a subtle departure from her recent forays into pop-leaning territory, as heard in singles like “Mes secrets” and “Heureux comme ça.” This musical recalibration seems intentional, aligning with the more personal tone of Blue Tears, which Audet has described as a “triptych of love songs.”

Audet enlisted a familiar team for this project. In addition to Parcoeur, Vincent Blain handled sound engineering and mixing at Studio Madame Wood, with mastering by Richard Addison. This continuity in collaboration suggests a deliberate effort to maintain the intimate, handcrafted quality that has characterized much of Audet’s previous work.

Over the past decade, Audet has steadily built a reputation as a thoughtful and versatile artist. Her discography, including critically recognized albums like Tu ne mourras pas (2020) and Il faut partir maintenant (2023), has earned her several accolades, including a Lucien Award for Folk Album of the Year and nominations at the ADISQ and GAMIQ galas. Her work often blends folk, vintage pop, and subtle psychedelic textures, all anchored by her delicate yet commanding vocal delivery.
