There’s a new Canadian coin with maple leaves that look like they’re shimmering in sunlight.
For 2025, the Royal Canadian Mint has released a coin that’s reminiscent of the leaves from a silver maple tree.
The Mint recently revealed the Gleaming Maple Leaves – 1/2 oz. Fine Silver Coin in Canada.
It’s inspired by the way the shiny undersides of silver maple tree leaves catch the sunlight as a breeze blows.
So, the 99.99% pure silver portrait features veined leaves with multifaceted engraving to offer a « new view of a famous Canadian emblem » — the maple leaf.
This coin’s leaf silhouette — which is raised off the surface of the coin — has sculpted and precisely angled lines that rise and fall to reflect and scatter light in different directions.
That means when you move the coin, it looks like the leaves are shimmering in the sunlight because of that.
It even looks like a bigger, fancier Canadian penny which also had maple leaves on it.
On the obverse of the Gleaming Maple Leaves coin, there is a portrait of King Charles.

According to the Mint, the silver maple is one of the 10 maple species that were named Canada’s national arboreal emblem back in 1996.
The name comes from the bright, silver undersides of the tree’s leaves which is reflected in this new coin.
Since this isn’t a circulation coin, it costs $64.95 to get one of these maple leaf coins.
It’s actually one of the Mint’s cheapest 99.99% pure silver coins for 2025. Most of the silver coins cost more than $100.
There is a limited mintage of 25,000 coins.
Back in 2024, the Mint released another maple leaf coin — a black coin with a silver sculpted and angled maple leaf that looks like it’s blowing in the breeze!
