Alberta's weather forecast calls for a big shift with some of winter's 'coldest temperatures'

Enjoy the somewhat toasty temperatures while you can, because the Alberta weather forecast is predicting a big change up with major temperature drops.

A big freeze is headed to the province, so people should brace themselves for some of the coldest winter temperatures yet. While Calgary is enjoying mild temperatures early this week, with a high of 8 C in the forecast for Wednesday, that won’t last for long.

The Weather Network (TWN) said that the « deep freeze » is heading to Western Canada after this mild Pacific air moves on to « trek across the country. »

This reprieve from the frigid cold though is set to change by late week, as « the western ridge flattens while a new ridge blossoms across Alaska. »

« That sets the stage for Arctic air from Alaska to spill into the Yukon and Northwest Territories, and surge southwards, » TWN added. With that B.C. and Alberta are expected to get « some of the winter’s coldest temperatures » towards the end of the week.

Brace yourself for bone-chilling temps, with Calgary set to drop to a low of -27 C on Sunday and Edmonton plunging even further to -31 C, according to TWN’s seven-day forecasts.

It’s time to dig out those winter layers and prep for an icy weekend ahead! On the bright side, Alberta’s spring forecast promises some warmth (and rain) in the months to come.
